Probably, the desire to bring beauty to this world. I realized that felting can be exactly the guide of my thoughts and feelings that I want to convey to children and their parents.
Taking part in exhibitions, I enjoyed communicating with people. And on one of such holidays of creativity the editor of the magazine "Podium Real" noticed and appreciated my felted clothes. Then I believed that even at the age of 60, you can enter the world of fashion with your own ideas and products.
2019 was a fast and bright start for me. It all started with a children's fashion show in Vinnitsia, then Kiev, Odessa, and the culmination of the year was a trip to Milan, where we went into the top three. At the beginning of January 2020, a broadcast took place on the TV channel "Kievsky Ranok", where I took part together with models from the magazine "Podium Real". And then a pandemic broke out. Trips to Belarus, Paris, and Germany were disrupted. But I don't despair, everything passes and it will pass. I have a lot of plans that I will try to implement when the borders are opened and quarantine restrictions are lifted.
The technique is really unusual, I use natural Australian merino sheep wool, natural silk, fibers and natural olive soap. I put the 18-micron wool manually on a pattern that has been enlarged 1.5-3 times. Then I lay out a design, that is I draw with wool, then there is a wool shrinking process to the desired size. There is not a single seam on clothes made using this technique, and most importantly, it is made of environmentally friendly, natural material. Right now it is relevant and appreciated all over the world.
Sure! But I'll tell you right away that the first steps should be under the guidance of a master. There are a huge number of free video courses, there are paid ones, but no one can replace a person in this learning process. There are so many secrets in felting that no video will give you as much as the master will tell you directly.
Wool and its derivative felt is a very plastic material. You can make clothes, hats, caps, scarves, stoles, mittens, mitts, gloves, shoes -home in the form of slippers and outdoor: high shoes, boots, felt boots. Felt is used to make bags, backpacks, clutches, toys, jewelry in the form of beads, neckpieces, flowers. Wool can be used to make paintings using the "woolen watercolor" technique. You can create interior details: wall panel paintings, lampshades for lamps, blankets and various rugs, accessories for photography and many very necessary and useful things.
Natural wool products can get shaggy. The way to get rid of the pellets is simple – you just need to shave your slippers with a special machine or an ordinary razor. Read more about the rules of care for natural wool products and for felted slippers made of natural merino wool in my BLOG.
